Clay Plaque Art Project For Kids

This is a project the kids made for Christmas presents for there moms. It would also be a great mothers day present.  My son made me a horse of course.

Materials
Air dry clay or potters clay. We used potters clay because that is what I had at the time.
Clay Tool to slice if using potters clay.
Pattern to trace. I found mine online and printed them out.
Rolling pin
Found objects
Canvas ( fabric)
Acrylic paint
Paint brush
Satin varnish
Black cord

Draw or print out photos about the size you want your plaque to be. Cut out the pattern. If using potters clay take clay tool and slice off a 1" slice from the top, air dry clay take a big hand full. Lay down Fabric and roll clay with rolling pin until about 1/2" to 3/4" thick. Lay your pattern on top and cut with a butter knife around the pattern.

Have the kids draw free hand the details of the picture and use found objects to make designs, smooth edges with finger. Make hole in top of plaque before it drys.
When done let dry completely about a week. When clay is dry paint with acrylics and after a few days varnish. Run cord through the hole, Hang and ENJOY!
The moms loved them!
