Fun Science Project for Kids, Water pencil

My son tried this fun science experiment from this cool book Totally Irresponsible Science Experiments. Fill sandwich bag about 2/3 with water, close bag. Hold top of bag, puncture bag through water area and go through to the other side. It's amazing how many times you can do it.

Critter Monster Plaster Cloth Art Project

Hello fun, artsy people. I wanted to share a project we did in art class at the beginning of the year. I had the kids make a critter/monster sculpture. It had to be at least 12' high or wide and it had to stand or sit. Newspaper can be twisted , crumpled, and rolled to make many shapes. You can also use bottle caps, small boxes, etc for facial features. Make sure you tape your sculpture tight and secure limbs and facial features well. After plaster cloth dry's for a few days paint, give your critter/monster a name and sign your project.

Plaster Cloth Mounted Mask Art Project

Hello fun, artsy people. Hope you are having a wonderful summer. I took some time off from the art class for the summer but here is a project we did in the spring using our Styrofoam heads we put faces on a few months ago. If you don't have a styrofoam head and mask you can use a bowl and some newspaper rolled up taped and shaped for facial features. I incourage the kids to have the hair and upper body painted on the board blend in with the mask.

Wait a few hours after your plaster cloth has dryed a bit and pull head off  suran wrap to completely dry for a couple days. Paint mask and board, drill holes in side of mask and board mount mask to board with cording and hang.

The kids always really enjoy making masks...

Cardboard Mosaic Art Project

The kids were very creative with this Mosaic project. I gave them left over pieces of Chipboard we had from previous projects, they painted them and glued them to painted large pieces of chipboard. Done! And what a wonderful abstract piece of art. If you don't have chipboard you can use any cardboard from packing or cereal boxes or even wood pieces would be great.  Enjoy!!

Paper Toy Art Project

  Hello fun, artsy people. Didn't know if you knew about paper toys but I just wanted to share some very fun and interesting paper toy sites I found online. My son and I have had lots of fun making them over the last few years. Most of the paper toys are free printable's. They range from easy to difficult . They make great presents and gift toppers. They also make a great activity to make at your kids birthday party.
   I found that using the clear tac fabric glue works best when putting them together because it dry's very fast.  I do warn you though they can be quite addicting and once you start making them you don't want to stop.  Check out the list below for paper toy sites.

Doodle Drawing Art Project

Well were doing a bit of drawing this month so again I chose a fun easy project that I call Doodle Art. I had the kids draw with a pencil squiggle pattern like they were conduction an orchestra making rounded full squiggle's over lapping each other. Then draw over there pattern with a sharpie, balck or what ever color you chose. I had them fill spaces in with different colors using Crayons, Sharpies, Water color makers, Colored pencils and Water colors paints.

At first they thought it was going to be very simple and not much to do, but when they got into it they really enjoyed seeing the pattern and colors emerge. Some added wording or designs in there spaces.

Abstract Bead Wire Sculpture Art Project

This was a fun and easy project for the kids. I encouraged the kids to bend the wire into random shapes and to use as many or as little beads as they like and be creative with the coloring of the beads. All the materials were ones I already had on hand. Left over 2 x 4 wood, sculpting wire, wood beads, wood markers.  Have Fun!

( Material list )

Wood base
Drill
Sculpting wire
Wood markers, Sharpies or paint
Acrylic Paint

Drill a hole in the block of wood. Paint wood base and any beads you like. Put one end of the wire in hole and bend to make your design. Once you have your wire where you like it put your beads on. Put glue in both holes and put wire in. I used epoxy glue in holes but you can use E 6000 or Super glue. Give the glue a day before you start moving the beads.

Aluminum Sculpture Art Project

Well this was a class that everyone really enjoyed. They all had different ideas a designs. This project is kinda like the one my grandmother did when I was young. Slightly different she didn't have the chipboard underneath the foil but she painted her design on the foil and put it into a picture frame. I still have the one she made me when I was little in my hope chest.

Material list

Aluminum foil ( heavy guage)

Chipboard or cardboard or board

Pieces of chipboard in different shapes

Fabric Tac glue ( love this stuff)

Sharpies

Glue chipboard pieces to big piece of chipboard. Gentle wrap foil around board. Gentle rub with your thumb on foil so designs raise, being careful not to puncture threw the foil ( don't use your nail).

Glue foil to back. Sharpie the raised designs. make a border, make two holes in the top put string threw and hang.

Mannequin Head Face Art

We will be using these mannequin heads for an art project in a few weeks so I thought instead of them up on the shelf faceless I would have the kids draw faces on the manikin heads with sharpies. Look at all the different expressions.

Black & White Drawing Art Project

This is a project that challenges the kids to come up with different design, motifs, pictures in each circle. I have them divide the larger circles in sections and make different designs in each. Some used a splash of one color in there drawing.
